Dr Paula Murphy (Dublin University)
"3D imagining of vertebrate development"
Biography:
Paula Murphy is Associate Professor at Trinity College Dublin, School of Natural Sciences. Her primary degree was in Genetics (TCD) followed by doctoral research at the MRC Human Genetics Unit, Edinburgh. She held EMBO (European Molecular Biology Organisation) and HFSP (Human Fronteirs Science Programme) Post-doctoral fellowships while carrying out research at the University of Rome (La Sapienza) and at the Ecole Normale Superieur, Paris.
Her research focuses on gene regulation and morphogenesis, working on a number of developing systems. Current projects include investigating how mechanical stimulation generated by embryo movement impacts skeletal morphogenesis, in particular joint development, and analysis of a mouse model of human congenital malformations of the foregut. 3D imaging of gene expression in a morphological context, using Optical Projection Tomography, is a particular specialisation of her lab.
