Professor Sergio Molina

"Column-by-column and atom-scale analysis of functional nanostructures and molecular materials"

Biography: 

Professor Sergio I. Molina is Full Professor at the University of Cadiz in the field of Materials Science and Engineering since April 2005. He is Scientific Advisor of the Electron Microscopy Division of this University. He was a post-doc in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy of the University of Cambridge, U. K., and he has carried out research visits in the University of Liverpool, the University of Sheffield, both in U. K., and the EPFL of Lausanne, in Switzerland. He has visited for one year (2006-07) the STEM group of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, TN, USA. He is co-author of 164 publications, 250 communications and 4 patents in the field of Materials Science and Engineering of Functional Nanomaterials, with a strong involvement in the development and application of advanced electron microscopy methods.

He has supervised 18 doctoral and Diploma theses in this field. He has been the leader for Education in the European network of excellence SANDiE (more than 300 researchers) on semiconductor nanostructures and has led a team of 18 researchers from UCA in this network. He has participated in 24 research projects and other research actions (regional, national and European), being the principal researcher in 12 of them. He is coordinating the creation of the Institute of Electron Microscopy and Materials at the University of Cadiz, which involves 9 research groups and 90 researchers. He is the leader of the research Group "Materials and Nanotechnology for Innovation".
